SÝNINGAR á LÓKAL 2008:

Ode to the Man Who Kneels – THE NEW YORK CITY PLAYERS (New York)

Óðurinn til mannsins sem krýpur fjallar um einmana kúreka, sem skjóta af byssum og berjast um hylli fagurra kvenna. Í bænum Grid er maður skotinn til bana af keppinaut sínum. Hann er þó ekki með öllu líflaus, því hann á það til að rísa upp við dogg og syngja. Líkt og aðrar persónur í þessari fyndnu, en áhrifamiklu leiksýningu. Höfundurinn og leikstjórinn Richard Maxwell tekur mið af gömlum kúrekamyndum og teflir persónum sem eru í tilvistarkreppu og á valdi langana sinnafram í skoplegum vestra í söngleikjastíl.

Richard Maxwell var fyrir nokkrum árum á lista yfir eitt hundrað áhrifamestu listamenn Bandaríkjanna. Hann er uppalinn í Fargo, starfaði um skeið með Richard Foreman og Wooster Group, en stofnaði loks sinn eigin leikhóp, The New York City Players sem hafa alla tíð unnið með afar sérstæðan leikstíl - svo ekki sé meira sagt!

L´ Effet de Serge – VIVARIUM STUDIO (París)

Serge býr einn. En á hverjum sunnudegi finnur hann sig knúinn til þess að bjóða heim fólki og setja á svið ör-sýningar. Til þess að gera þær sem best úr garði styðst hann við ýmsar veigalitlar tæknibrellur. Í þessu nýja verki heldur franski leikstjórinn Philippe Quesne tilraunastarfsemi sinni ótrauður áfram. Leikritið um Serge er skrifað sérstaklega fyrir leikarann Gaëtan Vourc´h og sýningin setur svo sannarlega spurningamerki við einleikjaformið!

No Dice – NATURE THEATER OF OKLAHOMA (New York)

Þetta örstutta fjögurra tíma sjónarspil er eins konar söguljóð, ort hvunndeginum til heiðurs. Það byggir á á samtölum sem leikstjórinn Pavol Liska átti við vini og vandamenn í síma og voru hljóðrituð. Leikararnir í sýningunni styðjast ekki við handrit, en hlusta á upptökurnar í i-pod spilurum og flytja samtölin með ýmsum tilbrigðum. No Dice er óvenjuleg leiksýning, með fjörugum dansi inni á milli. Áhorfendum er boðið upp á veitingar fyrir sýningu; skinkusamloku og gos.

The Talking Tree – ERNA ÓMARSDÓTTIR (Brüssel)

Talandi tréð er 3000 ára gamalt, að hálfu leyti mennskt og telur sig hafa spádómsgáfu og svör við öllum hlutum. Það syngur og dansar skrýtnar sögur um fyndnar og sorglegar skepnur og persónur af öðrum heimi. Talandi trénu fylgir laglína sem lætur nánast eins og þræll. Tréð og laglínan ferðast saman um heiminn og reka erindi sitt sem er, að segja sögur sem gætu breytt honum.

Óþelló, Desdemóna og Jagó – DRAUMASMIÐJAN (Reykjavík)

Sýningin byggir á leikriti Shakespeares, Óþelló, en leikgerðin endurspeglar mismunandi tjáningarform mannsins, þrána eftir samskiptum og þeim ólíku aðferðum sem hver og einn beitir í samskiptum sínum. Sagan er sögð af dansara í hlutverki Óþelló, leikara í hlutverki Jagó og heyrnarlausri leikkonu í hlutverki Desdemónu. Þegar þessi ólíku tjáningarform taka að skarast verða afleiðingar ófyrirséðar.

In a town called Grid a man is shot dead by his rival. Yet the dead man rises to sing. As do all the other characters in this quirky, poetic production. Paying homage to old western movies writer/director Richard Maxwell creates melancholic characters, full of desire and fear; lonely cowboys with shooting guns, competing for the affection of beautiful women.

L´ Effet de Serge – VIVARIUM STUDIO (París)

Serge lives alone. But every Sunday he likes to gather people around at his apartment and present them with a shortlived show, using minimalistic effects to create a theatrical atmosphere. French director, Philippe Quesne, Vivarium Studio´s frontman, has written the play about Serge specifically with actor Gaëtan Vourc´h in mind. The outcome is a piece of theatre that really puts the one-man-show to the test!

No Dice – NATURE THEATER OF OKLAHOMA (New York)

This very short four-hour show is an odyssey through everyday life, based on recorded telephone conversations director Pavol Liska conducted with friends and family over months of time. Equipped with i-pods, the actors listen to the recordings and deliver the text, shifting through methods of speech and expression. The costumes are colorful, there´s occasional dancing and they even serve sandwiches and soda!

The Talking Tree – ERNA ÓMARSDÓTTIR (Brüssel)

The talking tree is over 3000 years old. Partly human, the tree thinks it can see into the future and answer all questions. It sings, it dances; telling tales of weird and sad creatures in unknown territories. Along with the talking tree comes a melody, behaving almost like a slave to the tree. Together, the tree and the melody travel around the world, as if on a mission; telling stories that just might change it.

The Communal Living Room – ÞJÓÐLEIKHÚSIÐ (Reykjavík)

This time the exploration of Icelandic national character and the theatre takes us to the “baðstofa” – the communal living room on an old Icelandic farm. In this dimly lit area shadows grow long and we get to hear stories about people and apparitions. And there´s drinking and singing and people celebrating. Othello, Desdemona and Jago – DRAUMASMIÐJAN (Reykjavík)

Adapted from Shakespeare´s play about suspicion and envy, this show reflects the different means of expression man uses to fulfill his desire for communication. With Othello being a dancer, an actor playing Jago and a deaf actress in the role of Desdemona, the different methods of expression soon intertwine, resulting in unforseen events.
